Lesson learned

Usually I do my 5k training on a treadmill at the YMCA. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are hard because I don't have a reason to go to the Y (no kid classes) so I usually just do the bike at home and skip the running.

ok, so it is more of a jog.

alright, more like the pace of someone walking fast but for me and my short legs it is jogging.

Today I decided to head out on the streets and get my training in. Yeah, I won't be doing that again. . . or at least not until I lose much more weight. I need the cushioning of the treadmill!! My knees and calves and shins hurt like hell, assuming hell hurts A LOT.

Oh ouch. I get shin splints any time I try to run on pavement. Which isn't that often, come to think of it. :)

I can sympathize with you! Try running at a large park and stay on the grass. I have to find ways to stay out doors...I need the serotonin boost.

But Regina, you're always gonna be sore when you do something new. Good for you, girl!

Asphalt isn't too bad, but do not run on concrete (sidewalks). Try a school track if there is one nearby (local high school).

I am slow, too. I used to be better (not fast, but not THIS slow). Before I was fast, I was slow. It takes time. I have little patience, but I'm dealing.

The point is, you are moving.

Oh, and stretch before and after running. On a step: up on your toes and down below the riser.

I ran for the first time in a week yesterday! Six miles, but I took it R E A L L Y easy. No soreness at all! I thing the break was a good thing.

Nevereverever run on cement. It's death to the knees. I even avoid the little curb lip thing if I can. If I run on the sidewalk for even a half a block, I notice my legs and hips start to get sore. The tar is not a problem, and even better is sand or the grass (but I have to admit, I avoid those because it's slower and harder to slog through). School tracks are nice and padded and a little more hidden, just in case you are not wearing your more stylish track clothes...OR, you don't really want to be seen in public and all. OH, and I always run in a one-piece swim suit if I'm feeling extra jiggly. It holds everything in and makes me feel firmer. It may be confining, but at least I'm getting out there!

Running? I don't know how to run. The kids run and I wave goodbye to them... CUL8R!!

That is awesome Regina, not the pain, but the exercise! We have been thinking about getting a membership to the Y. With all that is going on we haven't been watching what we eat (no choice really) and we need to burn some of this fat off!!

Tomorrow is offically Wednesday but I have to leave AGAIN, so I am posting those to you today. I was in total shock (seriously) when I stepped on the scale and realized since the last time I weighed myself (April 29th) I am down 0.2 lbs. This is GOOD considering all the fast food that was consumed in this last month on the road.
