After much (little to none) thought, I have decided to stop doing WoW posts on here. Instead I am starting an exercise blog. Initial thought is to have those who wish to join along be authorized publishers so you can have posts as well, not just comment updates (though you can still just leave a comment if you don't want to do a whole post.) For now I will have it set to private. If you want to join in (or want to read along) either email me or comment and I will send you an invite.

Blog ethics
I have none. Wanna see a few more great pictures of the pretty place I now call home? Click on over to Erica's blog, that is where I stole the above picture. The pic is of the Tacoma Narrows bridge. . . it connects Tacoma to Gig Harbor (and other cities). Since you can see a train, I am pretty sure this is looking back at Tacoma. The original bridge was the famous Galloping Gertie.

Preteam
Yesterday {l} had the tryout of her life. . . you know, since it was the FIRST tryout of her life. She was asked to tryout for gymnastics pre-team. Basically there are two different routes in gymnastics - recreational or competitive. Both girls started recreational gymnastics last year. You have to be invited to join the competitive team. On Monday night, while going to judo, the head gymnastics coach saw {l} and asked Tug if she could come to gymnastics on Tuesday for the tryout. I took her last night and that coach (a different coach) said it was a tryout that would be Tuesday and Thursday night. At the end of class she said the Thursday tryout wasn't needed and that {l} would be joining pre-team (so long as I am willing to pay the additional $25/month). She is on the bottom rung of the competitive team (she is certainly the oldest in her class, most girls looked to be between 6-7 and there was even a 5 year old, {l} is 9). If she is able to improve and advance she will eventually be competing. YAY {l}!!

degrees. That is the temperature RIGHT NOW. Midnight. It is 82 degrees AT MIDNIGHT. Homes in this great area (for the most part) DO NOT have air conditioning. Our home does not.

Two
She is the only one of the four kids not to be born in New Mexico (of us 6, her and I are the 2 that share that distinction).

WoW-fourteen
WOW, I forgot. I spent the morning talking with a visiting friend, deciding how we were going to spend the afternoon. It was great to see Erica and the kids and I was able to replace my old purse with a new one (instead of the red stripe, it is hunter green, rest is the same) that will actually fit things besides my wallet ~ though I don't really carry anything besides my wallet.

2 miles and a new background
I made it on another 2 mile jog outside today. At least I think I did. We decided to take the dog to the dog park so I told Tug I would jog there and he and the rest of the family could meet me. I knew it wasn't quite 2 miles to the park so I just set my watch for 25 and a half minutes. I reached the dog park in 19 minutes then just jogged around for the remaining time. We checked the mileage on the way home and it was 1.6 miles to the dog park, which put me at 11 minute 48 second miles (helllllloooooo SLOW POKE). So if that pace was consistent, since I kept jogging for a total of 25.5 minutes I should have gotten the full 2 miles in. YAY me. I have started the 10k training and last Wednesday I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill but split it up (jogged a mile, walked 2 minutes, jogged a mile, walked 2 minutes, jogged half a mile). Still pretty happy with myself even though I walked some. Tuesday I am supposed to go 3 miles. . . ack. I think I will do my weekday jogs (Tues/Thurs) on the treadmill and the Saturday (long) jog on the road.

WoW-thirteen
What a loser, and I don't mean in the biggest way. It seems I check in every Wednesday just to say the week sucked and I will now get back on track. How many times can I do that? Here's another week, time to get back on track. I have been exercising but I have not been eating right. I think I have gained weight. ugh.

WoW-twelve
I didn't weigh myself this morning. I actually forgot that it was Wednesday. But, I also tend to avoid the scale when I haven't had a good week. Eating-wise I get an F. Exercise-wise I get a C. I did exercise some this week, but not as hard as usual. I am starting a 10K training program today and am getting back to writing down what I eat and being diligent. I think I will take the month off from weighing-in, though I will still check in on exercise/diet. I keep saying I want to just be healthy, but I tend to obsess over the number on the scale when I am trying to lose; and I get discouraged if I don't lose like 5 pounds a week (which is often unrealistic).

Taking it for the team
I admit I was rather nervous when I told of two of my friends being pregnant. You know these things come in threes, and I don't really want to be pregnant now (or anytime in the immediate future ~ but we are practicing Catholics, I am sure it is just a matter of time). Well I breathed a sigh of relief when I read Michelle's post and then for added assurance Aubrey joined the club. CONGRATS!!

Just to see him smile
This was last night. You can see the tooth cracked in half, and sitting higher than his other teeth. There is glue on the cut on his chin here too.And this one shows a little of how bruised his gum was. The doctor clearly missed a spot with the glue because he started bleeding a bit again. The ER doctor also tried to put glue on his tooth hoping to keep it together until Tug could get to an oral surgeon. Looking at his teeth would you ever guess his grandpa was an orthodontist? Just saying. This is today after the tooth was pulled. You can kind of see the dark red spot where a tooth should be.
And finally his chin again after the glue came off and the oral surgeon had to stitch him up. This is after being under general anesthesia. . . he was still a bit loopy but also was trying to look goofy.Just look at those lips. Eat your heart out Lisa Rinna. And we only have to pay $1000 for this look ($100 ER copay, $900 at the oral surgeon today which, fingers crossed, might be reimbursed by health insurance). Oh yeah, there is still the matter of getting a new tooth so maybe a bit more. I guess he could always shove a tic tac or chicklet in there. Still a steal of a deal (I am guessing) compared to collagen!

Toothless in Seattle
I spent most of last night at the ER with Tug. He was trying to put together a judo thingamabobber for the girls to practice something or other and ended up getting hit in the face with some metal contraption. The metal thingy hit him just below the lip, slightly above the chin and made a hole clear through to his gums. It also knocked a tooth almost entirely out. When we got to the ER (thank God for our awesome landlord who came and watched the kids) the tooth was sitting about a half an inch higher than usual and was cracked completely in half from top to as far bottom as we could see. The ER doc said he would use glue on Tug's face (because it would only require 1-2 stitches) and would try to get the tooth at least a little more in place (which he sort of did) then referred us to an oral surgeon. Today we spent the majority of the morning/early afternoon at the oral surgeon where Tug had to get the tooth pulled because it was also broken below the gum line (bottom tooth, his right, first big pointy on near the front). They also had to stitch up the hole in his face because the glue came off while they were pulling the tooth.

Fake it til you make it
Like Barb, I am having a hard time getting into the patriotic spirit this year (and likely for the next 3 at least). It is hard to summon the goodwill when I don't agree with pretty much anything the new prez has done to our country, and I fear pretty soon I won't be able to tell the difference between the USA and Britain/France/etc. But, as Tug always says, "Fake it til you make it" and I'll start the faking by putting up a patriotic background.
