Go Ducks

So, College Gameday is in Eugene today--we should have gone!! We don't generally care about the ducks but since they are playing #6 Cal we are today (obviously a win for O would mean the buckeyes would/should move up in standings).

*Tug got this hat when he worked on an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition house in Corvallis. I don't know why they were giving away O hats since Oregon State in in Corvallis. I think that episode airs sometime in October.

Making Buckeyes

I stumbled across a Buckeye recipe today and thought that might be a fun treat to make for Tug. The girls thought so too...

(R is wearing a crown grandma sent her for her All Hallows Eve costume)

As you can see, the size and shape aren't very consistent, but not too bad of a job considering it was a first for us all.

And now the finished product:

I couldn't find the paraffin but looking online it seems that is just needed to keep the chocolate from melting and to preserve it. This shouldn't be a problem because 1) I will keep them in the fridge and 2) NO sweets need a preservative in this family--ESPECIALLY if Tug is in one of his binging moods :).
Once they were completed R asked "Are we going to put those little things on the helmets?" L said "I thought we were going to make Buckeyes--you know, their heads and arms." I had to clarify that we were making them look like Buckeye nuts NOT Buckeye football players.
Now, IF the real Buckeyes lose tomorrow we will NEVER AGAIN make these buckeyes. In the immortal words of Michael Scott (last night was the season premier of The Office) "I'm not superstitious...I'm a little-stitious" (or something like that).

My how the time flies. Sweet baby girl is TWO MONTHS today--now if she would just be sweet enough to sleep through the night!!

Saint of the Day

Jessica showed me two awesome blogs (1 and 2) which have started to make me feel inadequate in my homeschooling (I still don't even know if homeschooling is one word or two). I have decided step one in improving their Catholic education is to start incorporating Catholicism (novel idea, I know). The plan is to have them listen to the Saint of the Day then find a picture relating for them to color and a quote for them to do as copy work. We began today:

Saint Vincent de Paul
"Free your mind from all that troubles you, God will take care of things."

(I highlighted the words for RN to trace. They, of course, had to "paint" the finger nails!)

Sculpey Clay

In a magazine I came across a cute craft using Sculpey clay. I thought the girls could make ornaments this year as Christmas gifts so I ordered some. Well, I realized yesterday during religion that we could make 10 Commandment tablets (since we are reviewing them). They turned out quite well--can you match the child to the creation (hint, mommy made one too):

Well, that got me in the crafting mood and I decided to try and get SE's handprint. The color isn't quite what I had hoped but I made due with the paint that I had:
