WoW-fifteen

wow wow whoopsie

I meant to post yesterday but every time I would remember I wasn't near the computer, and every time I was near the computer I didn't remember. Nothing to report anyway. Taking a month off of weighing in turned out not to be such a good idea (and I am only 3 weeks into it). Yeah, next week isn't going to be pretty. Still not motivated to do anything. The heat has made my exercise non-existent and my ice cream eating full scale. Ugh.
Time to start get back into gear. . . tomorrow

WoW-fourteen

WOW, I forgot. I spent the morning talking with a visiting friend, deciding how we were going to spend the afternoon. It was great to see Erica and the kids and I was able to replace my old purse with a new one (instead of the red stripe, it is hunter green, rest is the same) that will actually fit things besides my wallet ~ though I don't really carry anything besides my wallet.

back to business
Yesterday, according to my 10K training, I was supposed to do 3 miles. I gave it the old college try and came up short. Now my knee is really really hurting. I think I am going to forgo the 10k training (since Laura isn't going to be able to make it here anyway) and just focus on lower impact things and eating better. I do still want to run but I think I will keep my long runs to a maximum of 2 miles. I don't want to lose all the training I have done so far but I think at my current weight it is just too much on my already bad knee. What I am thinking of doing is Mon/Wed running 1-1.5 miles then on Saturday doing 2 mile runs. Since I should kinda plateau doing the same miles over and over I am going to do an additional workout daily. SO 2 workouts per day, once in the morning once in the evening and one of those workouts needs to be either weights or resistance training. That is the thought right now anyway. We will see what is actually put into practice.
As for food, it still isn't going well. Not well at all actually. But, never, never, never give up. . . at least that is what someone famous once said.

What a loser, and I don't mean in the biggest way. It seems I check in every Wednesday just to say the week sucked and I will now get back on track. How many times can I do that? Here's another week, time to get back on track. I have been exercising but I have not been eating right. I think I have gained weight. ugh.

WoW-twelve

I didn't weigh myself this morning. I actually forgot that it was Wednesday. But, I also tend to avoid the scale when I haven't had a good week. Eating-wise I get an F. Exercise-wise I get a C. I did exercise some this week, but not as hard as usual. I am starting a 10K training program today and am getting back to writing down what I eat and being diligent. I think I will take the month off from weighing-in, though I will still check in on exercise/diet. I keep saying I want to just be healthy, but I tend to obsess over the number on the scale when I am trying to lose; and I get discouraged if I don't lose like 5 pounds a week (which is often unrealistic).

So, no weigh ins for a month. On Aug 12 I will weigh again. Tug is going to have to hide the scale.

Wow-eleven

This week has been a bit mixed. I started off the week not doing too well with food, but have been doing my food/exercise log since Monday. I did exercise all week, I think. Last week I set a goal of 1.5 hours of cardio per day ~ last week I was crazy. I think part of my running problems before was that I was doing it everyday. The training was for 3 days a week but I would do the runs every day. I am switching to the 10K training so on running days the running is all I will do (which might only be 30 minutes). On the cross training days I will do 1 hour. For upper body I am going to do some light lifting. P90X was way too hard. Hopefully in a couple months I will be able to start doing it.

I don't remember what I weighed last week. When I gain weight, I (conveniently) don't write it down. I do remember what the lowest I have been while doing (this round) of WOW is though. I was fully expecting to have a 0 weigh in but the scale says differently and I think it is wrong. But, I will write down the loss and hope it is right so that next week I don't have a gain.

WoW-ten

Ugh and double ugh. This week was terrible. I didn't even try to be good. I ate like a cow. I exercised twice and that is all. I did about 20 minutes of one of the P90X videos (it was an hour long video) and was sore for 3 days. Yeah, those videos are to get in better shape, not for the faint of heart!

On Monday the kids started their gymnastics clinics so it was back to the Y. I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes ~ why did I spend 2 months building up a cardio base that got depleted in a week. It was so hard to jog a mile, but I did it. Tuesday too.
I had some Dr Pepper this week - real thing, not diet. I ended up throwing a cup away because it was way too filling.
I am having little resolve with food, but am getting back into the exercise. Why is it all so hard?!?

WoW-nine

I tried a little trick this morning. When I got on the scale I sucked in, exhaled all air and stood very still. It didn't work. I have been trying to get the house cleaned and organized (spent all of Monday in just one room-kids don't have classes at the Y this week) and I have used that as an excuse to not exercise (haven't since Saturday). I also used Tug's birthday as an excuse to eat a lot yesterday. Back on the South Beach narrow today and will give P90X a go in a little while.

WoW-VIII

So, it has been 8 weeks since I really started with the whole exercise thing. Theoretically 2 months and the overall weight loss isn't as high as I had hoped. I decided to start South Beach last week to get things going. I hadn't wanted to do an actual diet. . . preferred the whole eat less, workout more approach. Unfortunately that approach didn't work too well for me!! I am comfortable/confident enough in my workouts now (meaning I am going to continue working out and not just rely on the diet) that I am fine doing a low carb thing. I did slow down a bit on my workouts this week~I did 45 min on the bike daily but hadn't done much running. I did do my treadmill workouts last Wed and Thurs, but hadn't the rest of the week. Last night I decided I would try (since I had only done 30 min on the elliptical earlier in the day) so while the girls were in gymnastics I went on the track at the Y. I walked 12 laps, jogged 14 laps then walked 2 more laps for cool down (14 laps = 1 mile) and it felt pretty good so maybe I will go back to 2 cardio workouts/day.

I've given up. I exercise 6 days per week (doing 1 hr 15 min of cardio and arm weights) and though I don't eat great, I don't eat horrible all the time. Yet, no weight loss. Gained a pound actually.

I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors but I think there is a design flaw here, God. If I work out hard and eat mildly decent I SHOULD LOSE WEIGHT.
And, no, I haven't actually given up. I just now have to ::gasp:: really work on the food part of this whole thing. ugh.

WoW-20

I think next week I am going to start over with the week counting. So far no one has made it consistently to the week 20 mark (and you are all dropping like flies). I will go back and see when I started being serious and go from there (making next week week 7).

Like I said yesterday, a weekend of eating chips with chile con queso, brats, ice cream, etc. does not do a weight loss goal good! The scale being its wishy-washy self doesn't help much either. The first time I got on it showed +1.5, the next three times it showed ±0 so I will go with the zero and consider it a victory!!

I think this week I will cut back down to 1hr 15 min cardio (instead of 1hr 45 min) consisting of 30 min treadmill and 45 min recumbent bike.

Wow-18

Not looking so hot this week, dammit. I have done my cardio daily (except Sunday) and I don't think I have lost anything. I have even upped my cardio to 1 hr 45 min now. On Sunday I didn't work out and we ate lunch at Red Robin and Tug made ribeyes for dinner and, go figure, I was down a pound on Monday morning. This morning I was back up that pound after eating clean yesterday. So I decided, since Tug wasn't home for dinner, to have McDonald's (hey, it worked on Sunday) but I am thinking that wasn't such a good idea. . .besides the fact that I feel like crap now.

Any of you Biggest Loser watchers? Man Jerry showed me up. 65 year old losing that much weight, geez (though someone should have told his fans that on their sign it is LOSER not LOOSER. . .though his skin is much looser now). And boy was I annoyed that Helen won. I really don't like her.
Alright, this week FOR THE REALS I am going to eat 'right'; and by right I mean I am going to count my calories everyday, keeping them between 1300-1500, and continue with the cardio.
I think next week I will start to incorporate weights.

WoW-17

Soooooo, I am writing this on Tues. night. As I said before, this week wasn't the best in terms of eating. I did get my exercise in though. Well, some exercise in. The girls got her on Thursday so I went to the Y earlier than usual to get my full workout in (1.5 hours cardio). Friday I did 30 minutes on the bike before going to the homeschool conference (and dinner/dessert/drinks at The Cheesecake Factory). Saturday I did not exercise, instead I started feeling a head cold coming on. Unfortunately that didn't stop lunch and dinner/dessert/drinks at The Cheesecake Factory again. Sunday I did 30 minutes on the bike and started to regain control of my eating. Monday and Tuesday were mostly back on track with 1 hr. 15 min. on the bike and mostly controlled eating (if you don't count chips with my Subway sandwich). Unfortunately I haven't gotten my running in since the start of this head cold so I haven't been on a treadmill since Thursday. I am planning to walk on the one I have at home (which is a total beast) and not start running again until I am feeling at least a little better. I am soooo glad Tug bought this exercise bike because the girls have no classes at the Y this week and I know I would not have exercised had it not been sitting in our living room.

I haven't had any Dr Pepper since Easter. I have been brewing a big pitcher of green tea daily and have been drinking a lot of it iced and COMPLETELY unsweetened. . . it is an acquired taste. Honestly though it isn't so bad anymore. Jessica left some Chai tea mix here that I LOVED drinking while in Oregon. I made myself some tonight and had to throw it out, it was just way too sweet.

I think I am finally making some progress. I don't think the scale will show me down any, this morning I was up 0.5, but based on my eating this weekend I am not too disappointed. But, I am doing better (not great) on my eating and am really enjoying getting back to exercising.

WoW-16

WTF?! I weighed myself this morning and the scale showed down 1 measly pound. Off I went, sulking because I really worked hard this week. Then I decided, since I hadn't yet eaten breakfast, to weigh myself again. Scale showed down 2.5 pounds. HUH?? Off I went, confused. Tried one more time, still before breakfast, and the scale showed down 2 pounds. Which is it already you stupid scale?!? I knew I never liked that thing. I will take the 1 pound and hope next week is better.

Thanks to those of you who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. For the rest of you, phft. I didn't even cheat yesterday (no Erica, not a drop of Dr Pepper crossed these lips). Erica, Jessica and Marci are coming to visit tomorrow so we can go to a homeschool conference. I am sure this weekend my eating won't be stellar, but I am still planning on getting my cardio in. Last week I didn't take a day off but I think I will this week ~ just 1!

Depressing news ~ apparently it takes eating less AND exercising more to lose weight. ::sigh::

Wow-14

I am not pregnant. Nowhere near it. Far removed actually since {s} will be 2 in July. And yet, as I sit here typing, when I look down all I see is a belly that sure looks like it is with child. ::sigh::

So, not surprisingly, the week wasn't as good as I had hoped. I was in Oregon and felt the need to drink and eat and be merry. Merry doesn't last when you look down and see a baby belly sans baby.

Damn.

Getting on track this week. Aubrey is in town and I hope to meet up with her and Friday is {r}'s birthday, but neither of those 2 events should set me back.

Last week I told Michelle of my grand realization . . . EITHER I can lose weight slowly (which is an arduous process, not good on my instant gratification brain) OR I can gain it slowly ~ either way it will be slow and no matter what I am not staying at the weight I am now. Unfortunately, gaining happens much more quickly than losing and so far I seem to be on the track of the latter. Time to make it that of the former. I am totally going to go workout right now!
And by now, I mean eventually. . .

Wow-13

Why do I even bother with this??
So, as usual, the week started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Not even a whimper really, just a wimp. I just read Laura's
post regarding a friend with throat cancer who is going through chemo therapy. She quotes him as saying, "My spirits are good and I will continue to fight." Why am I not fighting for myself??

I can't have Dr Pepper anymore.

Boo hoo.

He is going through chemo therapy, fighting for his life. I can't even muster the energy to go for a long walk. I bet he would give lots to trade "problems." Last week my brother in law asked me to design a background for his new marathon blog. Yes, the very same brother in law who recently had open heart surgery. He wants to run a marathon, but his blog sits empty because of new problems he is having. I bet he would give lots to trade "problems."

Max can't just walk outside and grab himself a new heart. Mike can't run to the kitchen and swap-out his throat. They have no control over their problems.

I do.

And I will take control.

I WILL.

For Mike. . . maybe even for Max (a wee little bit for Max).

WoW-12

Do any of you watch the Biggest Loser? I do, though we tend to fast forward the whole show and just watch the weigh-ins. Honestly, that show does not inspire me at all. I mean how inspirational is it to watch a bunch of people lose tons of weight because they have personal trainers that make them work out for 8 hours a day? How inspirational is it to see them losing all this weight while they are locked up, living far away from all temptations? Not very.

However, last night they let the person who had lost the most weight at home come back into the game. The winner was a gal who has spent pretty much zero time at the ranch so all her weight loss was done on her own, back in the real world. AND, after 12 weeks (hello, we are on WoW week 12) she had lost eighty something pounds.

80 + pounds.

12 weeks.

holy crap.

Now that is inspirational. Crazy, but inspirational. Well she inspired me so much that I woke up this morning. That's it, I woke up. . . baby steps. ;)

I had plenty of resolve early in the day but by afternoon it was gone and I indulged. Back on track today though! I have lost since last week but it I am still higher than the lowest I've been on WoW so it doesn't count.
