wow...skirts

Here to check in for WoW? Well, good for you. I went to weigh myself this morning only to find my scale not working—I think it needs a battery. Can you say Divine intervention? Feel free to leave your update, I will update again tomorrow once I have a new battery. 

On to funner things (no, funner ain't a word). 

Erica and her family are here visiting while on their way back to Oregon from Nebraska because her husband had a meeting in Seattle. She dropped him off at a hotel then headed to our house on Monday for some fun. Late Monday we decided we needed to leave the kids with Tug and head to Joann Fabric. We weren't sure what we were going to create but I found a fabric I loved then decided on a skirt. I didn't know how much fabric I would need so I just took what was left on the bolt (a little more than 2 yards) and once home and cutting we realized we actually had enough fabric for 4 skirts so we made the girls (her 2 and 2 of mine, {s} doesn't need one) matching skirts. Last night we were back at the fabric store for half a yard of the contrasting fabric and Erica decided we needed to make little pouches for them as well. They weren't as cute as we had hoped but since it was 1 AM we decided they were good enough. 

Nightgown

As I said before, I couldn't find any Buckeye fabric when we went to the store a few weeks ago but I did find some plaid flannel that was basically Buckeye colors. The girls requested a nightgown so I used a pattern I already had. It is pretty heavy and {r} squealed "It's cozy!"

I am all about 'if I am making it, it should fit you for years'. 

The sleeves were supposed to have elastic at the bottom making them poofy but I didn't feel like doing it. I might make a few button holes and run some ribbon through it so they aren't quite so long but {r} doesn't seem to mind. Hopefully this will be a good luck nightgown tonight!!! 

On to pants

But first another skirt. I can't decide if I like this or not...kinda cute, kinda bedspreadish. I do like the fabric, I just don't know if I like it as a skirt. The fabric is reversible so I tried to make the skirt reversible too which led to an odd seam, increasing my dislike. Honest opinions please!

And now for the pants. The fabric store did not have any fabric for The Ohio State University (though they had Michigan, puke) so I had to go with my second choice for some pajama bottoms for {j}.

Oh yeah: skirt tutorial here, pants tutorial here...any sewers (one who sews, not a crap infested sewer-that is) out there explain to me how a hem can come out correctly (no gathering/bunching) if the skirt is cut circular on bottom. when you pin the hem up it will be to less fabric won't it? my hem gathered (on the plaid side)...any way to avoid this-or was it just bad cutting/pinning on my part?

Twirly Skirt

Reading Christine's post about a skirt she made reminded me of a skirt I have been wanting to try for a long time (not to mention I was hoping for a quick project since I am still knitting that scarf). At our other house I resisted sewing because it would have had to have be done in the kitchen and sewing is an involved process that (for me) is hard to quickly clean. At our current digs the sewing machine is in the playroom/schoolroom/my office and since we don't do school on Fridays, the room was empty. After digging around a bit on the internet I again found the tutorial and gave it a whirl twirl.

Lil' bro wanted in on the fun...don't pay attention to the fact that he is in his underwear.
