WoW-16

WTF?! I weighed myself this morning and the scale showed down 1 measly pound. Off I went, sulking because I really worked hard this week. Then I decided, since I hadn't yet eaten breakfast, to weigh myself again. Scale showed down 2.5 pounds. HUH?? Off I went, confused. Tried one more time, still before breakfast, and the scale showed down 2 pounds. Which is it already you stupid scale?!? I knew I never liked that thing. I will take the 1 pound and hope next week is better.

Thanks to those of you who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. For the rest of you, phft. I didn't even cheat yesterday (no Erica, not a drop of Dr Pepper crossed these lips). Erica, Jessica and Marci are coming to visit tomorrow so we can go to a homeschool conference. I am sure this weekend my eating won't be stellar, but I am still planning on getting my cardio in. Last week I didn't take a day off but I think I will this week ~ just 1!

It ain't easy being green

with envy that is.
Tug has an uncle who is an eye surgeon in Kentucky. This uncle was awesome enough to give Tug Lasik for free a couple years back, we just had to pay for Tug's flight to Kentucky. While Tug was there, his uncle flew him, in his private plane, to Ohio to visit his Grandpa (that uncle's dad). Knowing he is a Buckeye fan, his uncle flew Tug over the Horseshoe on their way to Ashland, OH.

Since then, his uncle has upgraded his plane and now flies/owns a jet. His little jet flew him to Ohio this past weekend to watch (along with 95,000+ other people) the scarlet/gray spring game.

95,722 people came out for what is essentially a scrimmage.

crazy.

I guess they fly pennants for all the teams the Buckeyes play this year, because he also sent along this picture.

The flag there on the left is for our alma mater, New Mexico State University. The Buckeyes will be kicking the crap out of the Aggies on Halloween. We will be cheering for each and every Buckeye touchdown—from afar, you know, cuz we don't have our own jet.

Who's your daddy

Tug walking in the door, home from work. . .

{j} yelling from the bathroom: Is that you daddy, or is it the mailman?

Tug: It's me buddy. Umm, how often does the mailman come inside??

Eight is not great

Aubrey tagged me for this fun little meme last week I think. Boy am I slow.

8 Things I am looking forward to:
1.
The girls spending the night next weekend.
2. {l}'s judo tournament next Saturday.
3. Trying to have a girls night out dinner next Friday.
4. Going to the Y in a bit and working out (if I say it enough, maybe it will be true)
5. October 23. . . my 10 year anniversary.
6. October 29-November 2 (ish) when my mom will be here watching the kids so Tug and I can go on a secret getaway. Tug knows we will be having a weekend away but I am trying to figure out something to surprise him with. Anyone know of any good bed & breakfasts or resort type places in the area?
7. Using the new recumbent bike Tug just bought at GI Joes. He got a smoking deal since they are going out of business. The tag said 20% off but the price listed was more like 60%. Tug asked the salesman who said "I'll give it to you for that price, I am losing my job soon anyway!"
8. Meeting Laura, Trina and Paula in September, hopefully.

8 Things I did yesterday:
1. 30 minutes on the treadmill doing the
couch to 5k plan, week 2.
2. 30 minutes on the elliptical after the treadmill.
3. Took the girls to judo practice at the Y.
4. Ate spaghetti leftovers for dinner, with a salad.
5. Some MT school.
6. Some homeschool.
7. Took a shower.
8. Went to Albertsons for batteries, cauliflower, broccoli, stuff for stir fry tonight, and no sugar added fudge pops. Actually, I only went for the batteries, I bought all the rest.

8 Things I wish I could do:
1. Drink Dr Pepper, eat lots of potato chips, and eat mint chocolate chip ice cream without gaining weight.
2. Take Tug to a Buckeye game for our anniversary. I feel bad since I know he wants to do this, but we can't afford it.
3. Pay off all our debt.
4. Visit family this summer.
5. Find a good, free, nonpublic school to send the kids to.
6. Go swimming without being embarrassed. . . I will get there, after about 5 more months of WOW.
7. Go to MN to meet Laura and Paula and visit the Spam museum.
8. Run alongside Laura on her crazy long runs, without dying.

8 Shows I Watch
I actually record and watch:
1. The Office.
2. The Biggest Loser.
3. American Idol.
4. American Idol results show.
5. Intervention.
6. Nascar race while ironing on Sundays.
7. America's Funniest Home Videos ~ Tug usually watches this with the kids, sometimes I join them.
8. Each and every Buckeye game. 20 more weeks until season kickoff.

8 People I tagNot sure who has already been tagged so if you already have been then just forget it, okay.
1. Jessica ~ when you have time between your feast days.
2. Erica ~ when you have time between your travels.
3. Laura ~ when you have time between your runs.
4. Paula ~ update your damn blog already!
5. Keri ~ hippies welcome.
6. Heather ~ how's your butt feeling?
7. Michelle ~ when you have time between your trips to the YMCA (of course talking about WA Michelle).
8. Shelly ~ because you too are lame in updating your blog. get off facebook already ;)

Wow-15

Depressing news ~ apparently it takes eating less AND exercising more to lose weight. ::sigh::

This year will be my 10 year wedding anniversary. As a goal I wanted to lose weight, lots of it, before then. Problem ~ October was far away and I would reason that I still had time. Well, now I am down to 6 months. I better get in gear!!

She is not a serial killer!

And thank goodness for that! Today I had the pleasure of heading up to Seattle to visit with a visiting Aubrey. She is as sweet as she seems on her blog. Cute gal, she is away from her kids for the whole week but still wanted me to bring mine along. I sure would not have been as gracious!

We met at a park, along the Sound.

The park had this awesome zipline swing that the kids loved!

be sure to click on this bottom one to see her awesome face!

I think {l} and {r} stayed on there most of the time.

Aubrey and I even took a picture together. Dare I do it?? Dare I show you??
Fine, ugh.

Isn't she cute! Boy do I need a haircut!
Aubrey, this doesn't give you license to post the one you have of us!! Thanks for hanging with us.

Sleepy Sunday

Tug decided he could no longer stand my pit of a car so he was going to wash it. Cool by me. However, I hate when he does actual work on weekends because then I feel I have to do the same ~ you know, to not seem lazy.

I especially try not to take a nap on weekends (unless I fall asleep on the couch, those naps don't count). But, when I was putting {j} down for his nap he said "Mama, will you way wif me?" I said no, I had stuff to do. He persisted "Mama, will you way wif me for just a second?"
Fine, but just for a second.
"No Mama, you have to get under da covers!"
Okay.
"Mama, why aren't you cuddawing me?" That was it. Night night time for both of us. I woke to Tug and the older girls ({s} was also napping) running through the sprinkler out back. Well, the girls were running through the sprinklers, Tug was just relaxing on a chair. Once we were all outside, Tug decided it was a fine day to use the charcoal grill. So that is what we are doing now. .  .it is GORGEOUS outside. (and I am so sad to have missed Michelle's email inviting us over to her house for an impromptu cook-out!!)

When we were in Oregon a family moved there from Seattle. The mom was really missing Seattle and I said, "How can you like it there? It is way better down here. It hardly rains here." To which she responded, "Yes, it rains there, but when it is a nice day, it is a really nice day."

I totally get it now!!

Oh My Gosh, Becky Look at

this commercial.

Have you seen it?

Tug and I thought it was really funny. At the end Tug said, "That commercial is for a kid's
meal?!?!"  Still pretty funny but, um, not so kid's meal appropriate!!

Wow-14

I am not pregnant. Nowhere near it. Far removed actually since {s} will be 2 in July. And yet, as I sit here typing, when I look down all I see is a belly that sure looks like it is with child. ::sigh::

So, not surprisingly, the week wasn't as good as I had hoped. I was in Oregon and felt the need to drink and eat and be merry. Merry doesn't last when you look down and see a baby belly sans baby.

Damn.

Getting on track this week. Aubrey is in town and I hope to meet up with her and Friday is {r}'s birthday, but neither of those 2 events should set me back.

Last week I told Michelle of my grand realization . . . EITHER I can lose weight slowly (which is an arduous process, not good on my instant gratification brain) OR I can gain it slowly ~ either way it will be slow and no matter what I am not staying at the weight I am now. Unfortunately, gaining happens much more quickly than losing and so far I seem to be on the track of the latter. Time to make it that of the former. I am totally going to go workout right now!
And by now, I mean eventually. . .

Cascarones

Know what they are, or is it just a Mexican thing? Growing up we made them ourselves; now my mom buys them and mails them to me.
This year we had some friends get in on the fun. They had never done this before and had no idea what confetti eggs were.

It didn't take them long to realize the fun, especially when you bash them on your dad's head.

I must issue a warning though, sometimes they hurt!!

Back from the land of cotton

okay, so we weren't THAT far south, but we did go to Oregon for Easter.  Saturday Erica had a birthday party for her daughter, and Jessica and Amy (and their families) were able to come. Here is {l} with the big 6 year old. Those are the 6 year olds' sunglasses, {l} LOVED them!!

The only pictures I have of the group have people eating and none are very good. Luckily it was beautiful and sunny, we just drove home to rain and hail.

Here are the kids on Easter.
While staying at Erica's we watched a movie
"Doubt". . . anyone seen it?

Second Guesses

Today I had the lovely pleasure of eating lunch with two of my absolutely bestest friends.

Then we got to go enjoy a lovely afternoon at the park with another friend (sorry, not on my computer, photos not uploaded).  Surely now you all can guess where we are!

Counting down to midnight. . .

when we can eat some snacks.
Guess where I am. . .

I am on the left. I am real. I am not a man!

Wow-13

Why do I even bother with this??
So, as usual, the week started with a bang and ended with a whimper. Not even a whimper really, just a wimp. I just read Laura's
post regarding a friend with throat cancer who is going through chemo therapy. She quotes him as saying, "My spirits are good and I will continue to fight." Why am I not fighting for myself??

I can't have Dr Pepper anymore.

Boo hoo.

He is going through chemo therapy, fighting for his life. I can't even muster the energy to go for a long walk. I bet he would give lots to trade "problems." Last week my brother in law asked me to design a background for his new marathon blog. Yes, the very same brother in law who recently had open heart surgery. He wants to run a marathon, but his blog sits empty because of new problems he is having. I bet he would give lots to trade "problems."

Max can't just walk outside and grab himself a new heart. Mike can't run to the kitchen and swap-out his throat. They have no control over their problems.

I do.

And I will take control.

I WILL.

For Mike. . . maybe even for Max (a wee little bit for Max).

For Daddy

I hope you can hear this. Tug and {j} usually say prayers before going to bed, but Tug is out of town tonight. In the beginning he says, "Goodnight Daddy. I miss you."

Yeah, I am relatively certain he says "blessed our thumbs."

Judo chop!

{l} had her first judo tournament today. She won her first match against another white belt (in the video {l} is in the white belt.) She won the second match, also against another white belt. There were no points in the first 3 minutes so it went to overtime. The video shows {l} throwing her opponent in overtime ({l} is in the blue belt). Tug was really proud of that throw. She lost her 3rd match to a girl who is a yellow belt (2 higher than white) who also happens to be in her dojo ({l} is the blue belt in that match too).

The video is the 3 matches combined, with the last 2 shortened.

Getting her silver medal.

With her friend who won gold in a lower weight class (they are the same age though).

fyi, there are no chops in judo

Revert the funding stream

I saw this on Heather's blog. Hopefully more people will realize stem cells aren't the cure all they thought they were (Lord knows they will never consider them babies). . . I wonder if Oprah will send this bit of information on to her BodyOdor buddy!

When kids play with the camera

{r}'s artistic vision . . . guess she never found that "good" thing to record, but I think {s} is dancing.

Out of my comfort zone

Almost makes me squirm just to ask, does anyone know a good recipe for tofu chili?

WoW-12

Do any of you watch the Biggest Loser? I do, though we tend to fast forward the whole show and just watch the weigh-ins. Honestly, that show does not inspire me at all. I mean how inspirational is it to watch a bunch of people lose tons of weight because they have personal trainers that make them work out for 8 hours a day? How inspirational is it to see them losing all this weight while they are locked up, living far away from all temptations? Not very.

However, last night they let the person who had lost the most weight at home come back into the game. The winner was a gal who has spent pretty much zero time at the ranch so all her weight loss was done on her own, back in the real world. AND, after 12 weeks (hello, we are on WoW week 12) she had lost eighty something pounds.

80 + pounds.

12 weeks.

holy crap.

Now that is inspirational. Crazy, but inspirational. Well she inspired me so much that I woke up this morning. That's it, I woke up. . . baby steps. ;)
